moodtwn makes alt-rock rooted in memory, motion, noise, and romance — melodies that lodge in your head like something you heard on AM radio in 1974, delivered with guitars that owe nothing to nostalgia. The solo project of Los Angeles songwriter Joseph Lewczak, moodtwn is the sound of what comes back when you finally get quiet enough to hear it. The debut single "Topanga Days" is out May 29, 2026.

The debut single "Topanga Days" is about that first spark between two people — a chance meeting on a summer day when you notice someone simply being themselves and want to know everything about them. It moves the way a great festival set moves: a sway at the start, a hundred new friends by the middle, and something close to pure joy by the time the final chorus hits.
There is a flea market somewhere in New Jersey that lives deep in a memory. A stranger picked up a guitar and finger-picked something that sounded like magic. The wood smelled of must and somebody's basement. The strings were worn and slightly rusted. The case was beat up. And when he held it, even though it felt too big, like a dream just out of reach, something locked into place that has never fully let go.
That guitar became moodtwn. Not directly. Not immediately. There were decades in between filled with other work, other lives, songs written in the margins, guitars bought and neglected, cover bands joined and quit, the recurring suspicion that maybe he wasn't good enough. But the pull never stopped. It just went quiet for a while.
He was always in the band. Never the artist. Always contributing to someone else's vision, someone else's sound. He told himself that was enough. It wasn't.
